BALANCE for Blind Adults Team

2025 Team Achievement Award -

Nominator Comments:

At BALANCE for Blind Adults, the heart and soul of the organization lies in its dedicated, small but mighty team, whose unwavering commitment to the blind and partially sighted community in Toronto has been transformative. Celebrating 40 years of impactful service, BALANCE has grown from providing housing to a handful of individuals to supporting nearly 200 clients in 2023, a remarkable 35% increase from the previous year. This incredible team not only leads with passion but also with creativity, as shown through their innovative initiatives like the staff team for their Because of BALANCE fundraising campaign, which raised over $9,500 for vital services. The success of the Pre-Employment and Assistive Technology Apprenticeship Programs, where staff collaborate to help clients develop essential skills, speaks volumes about their teamwork and dedication. Their community-building efforts are further exemplified through their accessible and inclusive group wellness programming such as Boxing, Self-Defense and the Sharing Space Support Group. Whether supporting individual clients with complex needs or working together to educate the public about how blind people use technology, this team continuously adapts and thrives to ensure everyone has the tools and supports to lead life on their own terms. Their work is truly a testament to the power of collective effort, compassion, and the positive change that can happen when a community comes together with purpose.
