Centre For Newcomers

2025 Award - Calgary

Nominator Comments:

The Centre for Newcomers would use this award to enhance our current employee recognition efforts by providing opportunities to create additional formal recognition and appreciation initiatives.

With these funds we wish to introduce the following:

Recognition of Service: Currently CFN does not have a service recognition program, and as we look at the cost of introducing one, we will begin with recognizing staff’s length of service through differentiating name tags. Staff with between 5 years and 10 years service will have a “bronze” name tag, those with 10 to 15 years of service will receive a “silver” name tag and those over 15 will receive a “gold” name tag. This will allow staff to be easily identified for their loyalty and commitment. These new name tags will be presented, along with personalized appreciation cards, to staff during our Staff event in July 2025, and is expected to cost approximately $450.

Mission Impact Stories Wall: Create a “Mission Accomplished Wall” where each team member is celebrated for a specific contribution that is tied to real client impact stories so they can see the difference they’ve made. This would be set up in June, and in August a celebration event will be held, featuring treats as well as a draw for “Passion Grants”. These grants would be between $50 and $100 that the employee can use to toward something meaningful to them—could be professional development, wellness, or a personal passion project. We expect this initiative to cost approx. $800

Finally, we would like to establish recognition of staff’s birthday. Research has shown that in our current digital age, that receiving a physical symbol of kindness have a huge impact. These cards would be signed by senior leadership as well as the employee’s direct supervisor and mailed to their home. This low cost imitative is known to have a enormous impact on an employees moral, through thoughts of worthiness and being seen. The approx. cost of this program would be $75

Have you been helped by a human service champion? We would love to hear about it.
