Circle of Supports Demonstration Project was created through a collaborative process from the conceptual stage. UpStart, a United Way of Calgary and Area Initiative, brought together 15 agencies to discuss supports that increase Aboriginal school success and completion. From these consultations, the Full Circle Implementation Team was created and the team began to identify needed program initiatives that would contribute to their desired outcomes. A holistic project to meet the needs of Aboriginal youth was the primary program initiative and United Way created and distributed a call for proposals in the community. The Boys and Girls Club of Calgary, YMCA Calgary and Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth came together as the Core Collaborative. Along with multiple tertiary collaborative agencies and systems, the Core Collaborative is focused on providing needed supportsCircle of Supports Demonstration Project was created through a collaborative process from the conceptual stage. The Boys and Girls Club of Calgary, YMCA Calgary and Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth came together as the Core Collaborative. Along with multiple tertiary collaborative agencies and systems, the Core Collaborative is focused on providing individualized supports to 30 Aboriginal youth over a four year period, starting in their grade 8 – 9 school year and continuing to grade 12, with the focus on what is needed for them to be successful in and complete school……. The Circle of Supports Collaborative is still in its first year of operation and is already showing positive momentum toward addressing the barriers that impede the success of Aboriginal students in school.
