The Abundance Store is an employment project through the Elizabeth Fry Society of Mainland Nova Scotia’s Abundance Program. This second-hand store is designed to address the gap in employment opportunities and the barriers to employability for criminalized women and gender diverse individuals. The Abundance Store provides. programming on various skills essential for personal and professional development. The store aims to ensure that participants develop financial literacy, customer service, communication skills, teamwork and collaboration, and more workplace skills. The store additionally provides practical, hands-on employment training within a supportive retail setting, allowing participants to gain valuable work experience. This experience is crucial for building a resume and developing a sense of confidence, which are essential steps toward long-term employability. The Abundance store directly supports the rehabilitation, reintegration, and empowerment of criminalized and marginalized groups. All proceeds from the store are directly funneled back into the Abundance Program/Project and its participants., By designing a space that caters to criminalized and marginalized women and gender-diverse individuals, the Abundance Store creates an environment where diversity is celebrated, and inclusion is valued. The Abundance Store focuses on providing support towards individuals who face systemic barriers to employment due to their criminalization or marginalized status.
