Foothills Country Hospice Society

2025 Award - Calgary

Nominator Comments:

At Foothills Country Hospice Society, we deeply value the dedication and compassion of our front-line staff. Their unwavering commitment to providing dignified and compassionate care to our patients is the cornerstone of our organization.

One of the primary ways we plan to use the award is by fulfilling a special request from our front-line workers for a fridge and toaster in the new clinical break room. The break room is more than just a space for staff to take their breaks; it is a sanctuary where they can recharge, reflect, and find solace amidst their demanding roles. The emotional energy and compassion that our care providers invest in their work every day require a balanced approach to self-care.

Listening to and addressing the needs of our front-line staff is a fundamental aspect of our recognition program. The request for a fridge and toaster came directly from our care providers, highlighting their desire for a more functional and supportive break space.

By equipping the break room with essential amenities like a fridge and toaster, we aim to create a comfortable and welcoming environment where staff can enjoy nutritious meals and snacks. This small but significant enhancement will contribute to their overall well-being, allowing them to return to their duties refreshed and rejuvenated. A well-designed break room acknowledges the importance of self-care and demonstrates our commitment to supporting the holistic needs of our front-line staff.

The positive impact of recognition enhancements on staff morale and organizational culture cannot be overstated. A supportive and appreciative work environment leads to higher job satisfaction, reduced burnout, and improved overall performance. When staff feel recognized and valued, they are more likely to be engaged and committed to their roles, ultimately enhancing the quality of care we provide to our patients and their families.
