Muoi has been working as the Downtown Eastside Seniors Centre’s Kitchen Cook for more than 15 years. She has demonstrated commitment to improve the quality of life of seniors through our low-cost food program. Her unfailing care for the isolated seniors has been reflected through her day-to-day service. Her smile and attention to details have made the seniors feel welcome at the Centre.
Muoi works in a relatively unsafe environment in the Downtown Eastside, especially when it’s still dark in the early morning during winter, but no matter what she is willing to go above and beyond.

“They do what others have described as ‘turning the impossible into the inevitable.’ They take more risks than we can imagine and really do go above and beyond the call of duty on more days that we can count.”
“None of the work we do in the community would be possible without the hard work, dedication and passion of the people who work at the social service agencies that United Way funds,” said Michael McKnight, President & CEO, United Way of the Lower Mainland.
The awards were presented at New Westminster’s Anvil Centre.
