Early Years Program Supervisor
Maggie’s Place Family Resource
Nominator Comments:
Nancy quickly adapted her programs to stay connected to families in response to COVID-19. While working remotely in the Spring, she recorded a weekly story-time on her deck which was then shared on Facebook and YouTube. Families commented on how they would gather around with their children to watch and how their children enjoyed seeing Nancy. For the summer months, Nancy created weekly activity kits for families. Each week a new kit was put outside the centre in bins for families to pick-up or they were delivered. Once the kits were completed, Nancy then recorded cooking demonstrations of kid friendly recipes that parents and children can cook together. These videos were also shared on Facebook and YouTube. During this time, Nancy also took the lead on sharing COVID-19 updates and information on our Facebook page including current Public Health guidelines, parenting information and community services.
Nancy also does exemplary work in the area of Injury Prevention. As part of her duties at Maggie’s Place, she is a Red Cross First Aid Instructor and a Child Passenger Safety Technician-Instructor. In addition to offering these services and programs to Maggie’s Place staff and parents, she is regularly called upon by community groups and schools to offer first aid and babysitting courses.
All the staff at Maggie’s Place would say that Nancy does a lot with a little She finds uses for items that others would throw away.
