Regent Park Community Food Centre Team

Regent Park Community Food Centre Team

2017 Team Achievement Award - Greater Toronto

CRC/Regent Park Community Food Centre

Nominator Comments:

A passion for people and the power of good food drives the Regent Park Community Food Centre team. Founded as a partnership between CRC and Community Food Centres Canada, this remarkable team addresses food security needs by providing community meals, offering food-skills development training and support for community gardens, among others. They are also the driving force behind the celebrated “Taste of Regent Park” weekly midsummer festival, an open-air market, community meal and movie screening. Another incredible accomplishment is that since the team’s inception, 64% of Regent Park Food Centre participants report eating more fruits and vegetables at home, and 70 community participants have used the centre’s services to obtain their Safe Food Handlers Training, which opens up a potential career path—and a more secure future.

To quote the team’s nominators: “The Regent Park Community Food Centre team has successfully positioned the CRC as the go-to for all things healthy food related in Regent Park.”
