2019 Dedication Award - Greater Toronto

Resource Facilitator

Learning Disabilities Association of York Region

Nominator Comments:

As a mother of two boys with learning disabilities, Renee first came to Learning Disabilities York (LDAYR) in the early 90s for support. It wasn’t long before she began helping other parents, volunteering with a Tuesday support group that still meets after 24 years.

After seven years of volunteering, Renee joined the team professionally as a certified Resource Facilitator. In this role, she provides resources for parents and adults with LD/ADHD and the community at large. She facilitates the Parent Support Group and Parenting Course, supports the Adult and SOAR programs, and organizes seminars and community outreach on ADD/ADHD and learning disabilities.

Renee is well-known for her open-door policy and is a support system for her colleagues. Despite managing a heavy workload, she takes whatever time is needed to be there for her colleagues and help them problem solve. She exemplifies dedication and is a champion for families dealing with the stress of living with this difficult diagnosis.
