Nominator Comments:
Our organization is deeply committed to supporting individuals of African descent in Calgary who are fleeing domestic violence, and we understand the critical importance of ensuring that our front-line employees and volunteers feel valued and supported. While we have previously recognized their contributions through informal awards and professional development opportunities, this award would provide the resources to create a more structured and impactful recognition program.
One of the primary ways we would use this award is by implementing a wellness day, where front-line staff and volunteers would be treated to a self-care experience such as a spa day, wellness retreat, or other forms of relaxation and rejuvenation. Given the emotional and mental toll that comes with supporting vulnerable individuals, this wellness day would offer our team the opportunity to disconnect and recharge.
In addition to providing a much-needed opportunity for self-care, the wellness day would be a perfect occasion for formal recognition. During this event, we would incorporate a recognition ceremony where staff and volunteers can be acknowledged for their exceptional work, dedication, and contributions through special recognition or personalized thank-you notes, emphasizing both their professional achievements and their personal well-being. By using the award to fund this wellness day, we would create an ongoing tradition of celebrating our team’s contributions while also prioritizing their mental and physical health.
