St. Stephen’s Community House

2017 Partnership Award - Greater Toronto

St. Stephen’s Community House

Nominator Comments:

From its home base in Kensington Market, St. Stephen’s Community House uses partnerships to unlock the abundant knowledge, experience and insight of the city’s social service agencies. The 85 partnerships they’ve cultivated, and their membership in 20 networks, allow them to offer an impressively wide range of services in youth employment, child care, food security and immigration, to name a few! This structure is by design: a decade ago the agency set a direction to develop strategic partnerships that help people and families build better lives. One example? The Toronto Community Addiction Team, where St. Stephen’s is the lead agency, works with three other partner organizations to provide case management to 190 people with lived experience of homelessness and also struggling with substance abuse.

To quote one of St. Stephen’s community partners: “Under the direction of Executive Director Bill Sinclair, St. Stephen’s Community House has modelled how the thorny, but rewarding work of collaboration should be done.”
