Nominator Comments:
At Unison, we deeply value the essential contributions of our volunteers and front-line staff, who are the heart of our mission to support older adults in living healthy, connected lives. With this funding, we would enhance our existing recognition program to more meaningfully celebrate and support these individuals throughout the year.
Currently, we host three annual recognition events: our Volunteer Week Celebration in April, the Summer Get-Together in August, and the Holiday Mix & Mingle in December. These gatherings are more than social occasions—they are heartfelt opportunities to honour the time, dedication, and compassion our volunteers and front-line workers bring to Unison every day. They also help foster a strong sense of belonging, community, and purpose.
Funding would allow us to elevate these events with personalized tokens of appreciation, guest speakers, and enhanced programming that reflects the unique contributions of each volunteer and staff member. It would also support the creation of new monthly and quarterly recognition touchpoints—such as shout-outs, milestone acknowledgments, and small surprise-and-delight moments—to ensure that appreciation is ongoing and visible year-round.
Volunteering at Unison, especially for older adults, provides structure, purpose, and connection, which supports mental well-being and reduces isolation. Recognizing this contribution not only boosts morale and retention but reinforces the dignity and value of their service. This award would allow us to continue building a culture of gratitude—one that celebrates those who give so much of themselves to others.
