In the summer of 2023, Vivian Etuka witnessed the heartbreaking plight of African refugees seeking shelter on the streets of Brampton. Driven by a deep sense of empathy and urgency, she took action. Leading a powerful city-wide advocacy campaign, Vivian organized a march that rallied community members, local organizations, and government leaders to confront this humanitarian crisis. Through her leadership, Vivian not only organized a powerful march that brought attention to their needs, but also forged partnerships with shelters and housing organizations to secure temporary and long-term housing solutions for displaced families. Her efforts ensured that refugees received the care, support, and culturally relevant meals they desperately needed. Vivian’s remarkable ability to unite diverse groups and motivate action inspired not only those directly involved in the cause but also the volunteers and staff at Bethel Outreach Community Services (BOCS) to stay steadfast in their mission. At BOCS, she also launched initiatives like the Senior Wellness Initiative, addressing social isolation among older adults through culturally inclusive activities that impacted over 150 seniors. Vivian’s commitment to diversity and inclusion shone through in her leadership of the Unity in Diversity event, which celebrated Brampton’s multicultural landscape and fostered connections across cultural divides. With a clear vision, strategic foresight, and deep compassion, Vivian has led transformative change within the community, uplifting vulnerable groups and fostering a spirit of hope, unity, and lasting impact. Her ability to inspire, mobilize, and lead with empathy sets her apart as a true catalyst for positive change.
